The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit animal shelter. We depend almost entirely on donations from local community members. The animals in our care depend on your support. Use the links below to donate online, see our wish list, and more! If you’d prefer to mail or bring a donation in person, we invite you to do so at HSMSC, 935 Farm Road, Memphis, TN 38134.

We are classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization for tax purposes, so all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Sponsor Our Events
We host a number of fundraising, adoption, and awareness events throughout the year. We could not do it without our sponsors, both financial and in-kind. Host a Fundraising Event
Host a fundraiser as an individual, with your friends, or at your business. Feel free to get creative! Fundraise with a bake sale, birthday party, craft sale, or yard sale – the possibilities are endless! Businesses can throw a community event, donate a portion of sales, collect a dollar per drink, and more! Contact us and tell us about your fundraising event. We would love to help!
Kroger Community Rewards
The Kroger Community Rewards program donates money to nonprofit organizations when enrolled supporters use their Kroger Plus cards. That means you can earn money for HSMSC every time you buy groceries or gas at Kroger! There is absolutely no cost to you other than what you’re already spending, and it has no effect on your Kroger Plus discounts or fuel points. All you have to do is sign up for a free Kroger account if you don’t already have one, enroll in the Community Rewards program, search for “Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County,” and click on our name to confirm. Go to www.kroger.com/account/enrollCommunityRewards. If you have trouble, you can access Kroger’s complete list of detailed instructions here. You must renew your Community Rewards each year.

Caring for over 300 animals requires a lot of food and supplies, and we rely on the generosity of people like you to keep us stocked. Consider our wish list below, when you are cleaning out a pantry or closet or even when you have a birthday! Or, add a few extra items to your shopping list.

Employer-Matching Donations
If you donate to the Humane Society, check with your employer about matching dollars for charitable donations. If you volunteer your time at the Humane Society, check to see if your employer might match your hours with dollars. Some companies now include donations of your time as well as your money in their Matching Gifts programs.
Donate Retirement Assets
Retirement accounts can be heavily taxed and can significantly reduce the value of your account when given to an individual. If you name the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County as the beneficiary of your Individual Retirement Account, 401(k), 403(b), or other qualified pension plan, your estate will receive a charitable deduction for the funds’ full amount. Your gift can reduce the tax burden on your estate, increasing the amount your heirs may receive. You can also use an IRA distribution to set up a Donor Designated Fund. Need help figuring it out? Gifts of Stock & Appreciated Assets
Give the Humane Society appreciated securities, shares in a mutual fund, or other types of appreciated property, and you can enjoy tax benefits and a charitable income tax deduction. By donating appreciated property instead of cash, you can usually deduct the current fair market value of the property and avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation. Bequests
Join the Circle of Humane Heroes! Leaving a gift to the Humane Society in your estate plan is a wonderful way to make a lasting impact for animals in need. Bequests are the simplest and most popular type of planned gift, and they allow you to designate a portion or all of your estate to support our mission.
Your bequest can be unrestricted, which means we’ll use it to fund our endowment and operating budget, or you can choose to restrict it to a specific program or purpose that’s near and dear to your heart.
We know that estate planning can be overwhelming, but our team is here to help make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.
