Volunteer
Opportunities
Dog walking volunteers help our dogs become more adoptable by giving them much-needed exercise and training them in behaviors that will help them get adopted by their forever families. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older to volunteer as a dog walker. As a dog walker, you will socialize, train, and exercise adoptable dogs by taking them on their daily walks. Services also include cleaning, filling, and passing out the enrichment toy known as KONGS, filling water bowls, folding laundry, scooping waste, and other general activities around the facility. To become a dog walking volunteer, please fill out a volunteer application and attend a Volunteer Orientation.
Help our amazing cat care staff keep our kennels clean and our cats happy by volunteering for one of our cat cleaning shifts. We clean our cat habitat every morning, which includes sanitizing and wiping down kennels, emptying litter boxes and refilling litter boxes, doing dishes, refilling food and water bowls, and doing laundry. This is an essential part of our daily work and helps keep our feline residents comfortable and healthy. We also provide enrichment through playtime and socialization, to ensure that our cats have the best chance possible at a successful adoption. We ask that you submit a volunteer application and attend a Volunteer Orientation.
Do you have a passion for helping animals and want to make a difference in your community? Consider volunteering at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County! There are a variety of ways you can get involved, including providing administrative and event support, lending your photography skills, offering IT assistance, or help writing descriptions of the animals in our care. As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals and fellow animal lovers to make a positive impact on the lives of animals in need.
Corporate team volunteering at the Humane Society not only benefits the organization but also fosters a sense of unity and purpose among employees. Engaging in hands-on activities such as assisting with animal care, facility maintenance, or event support, corporate volunteering allows teams to collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together in a different setting. This experience encourages teamwork, enhances employee morale, and strengthens bonds within the company. Moreover, corporate team volunteering at the Humane Society provides a unique opportunity for employees to connect with animals in need, promoting empathy and compassion. By giving their time and skills to support the organization’s mission, teams can make a tangible difference in the lives of animals while creating a positive impact on their own work culture and sense of social responsibility. Interested in volunteering as a group? Please email volunteer@memphishumane.org and include your name, the number of volunteers, and the name of your organization.
