The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County
For pet owners in need, the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has limited amounts of free dog and cat food. It is available to pet owners on government assistance who also qualify for our Low-Cost Vet Clinic. Pet owners will receive a punch card that is valid for four (4) pick ups each year. To get the punch card and pet food, stop by during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10am til 5pm.

Dog Trainers
At the Humane Society, we only recommend using positive reinforcement training, and trainers who exclusively use these methods and avoid any aversive techniques. Our staff Dog Trainer offers a Saturday morning positive training course. Please email lphelan@memphishumane.org to learn more. There is also a professional organization called Positive Trainers of the Mid-South, which is a great place to start in looking for a dog trainer. Keep in mind that there may be positive dog trainers not involved with this group, so it’s good to do your own research. But make sure they use only positive training methods.
