Did you know Saturday, July 31 is National Mutt Day? This recognition day is meant to encourage communities to embrace, save and celebrate mixed-breed dogs. We love the mutts we shelter at the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County and are excited for any opportunity to celebrate them. In honor of National Mutt Day, here are four adoptable mixed-breed dogs in our shelter right now!
Don’t call it a comeback! Our sweet Milla is almost fully recovered from a case of mange that was a result of her past neglect. Throughout her entire recovery, this gal has stayed happy and as sweet as can be. Every day, you can see her becoming more confident as her gorgeous coat continues to fill in. Sometimes she can be a little nervous around new people, but once she gets to know you, it’s playtime! At just two years old, Milla is well-mannered and gentle but ready to take on any adventure. Milla can be a little picky about her animal friends, so her ideal forever home has no other pets. Milla loves her human friends and would thrive with a family who is as active and goofy as she is!
Life ain’t ruff when you’ve got a pup like Dufph! At just over a year old, this girl is fun-loving and ready to make you laugh. A natural comedian, Dufph enjoys making goofy expressions and finding creative ways to get pets. Dufph also loves to learn new tricks. Our in-house trainer, Lee, says she is a very smart girl – and we agree! In fact, one of her favorite pastimes is doing doggy puzzles with our staff. Dufph makes friends with anyone she meets! Whether it’s children, adults or other dogs – she will have a blast! Dufph would thrive with a family who loves creativity and fun.
Whoever said old age was boring, never met Trixie! At 11 years old, Trixie is our resident old lady, but you would never guess that she’s a senior. Trixie is best described as one of the Golden Girls – old in age but young at heart and ready for adventure. Trixie loves playing with staff and going on walks. And, she always makes sure to grab a toy from the front desk when she passes by! Trixie doesn’t love to share her toys with other dogs but has a blast playing with her human friends. This gal would thrive in a family who’s moderately active.
Last, but certainly not least, is Cecelia! Cecelia is 7 years old and has never met a person she didn’t instantly love. A true social butterfly, she is great with kids and adults. Cecelia would thrive in a forever family who enjoys being active. Her favorite pastime (besides getting treats) is playing fetch! But, when she isn’t playing with toys, she can be found cuddling up in someone’s lap. Cecelia loves her two-legged friends but does not like to share their attention, making a home with no other pets the perfect fit for her.
