Please donate today to give them the medical care they need to live the rest of their lives happy, healthy, and full of puppy joy.
We took Chorizo in from Memphis Animal Services (MAS) with a dislocated hip, breaks on both sides of his pelvis, a tear in an important ligament in his knee joint (torn CCL), and large, deep cuts to the tendons on his left ankle. He was so covered in ticks that his red blood cell count was dangerously low and was on the brink of needing a blood transfusion.
Even with all these injuries, Chorizo is still a big sweetheart with lots of love to give. We decided the best course of action was to send him to our medical care partner, Shelby Center Hospital for Animals. After being at the vet for six days and getting his red blood count back up, he was able to have his left leg amputated, as it was unusable and causing him great pain.
Once sweet Chorizo recovers from that surgery, he will need another to fix the breaks in his pelvis and hip. His surgeries are estimated to cost $2,500 (not including the time and care he needs to recover and rehabilitate). They will change his life and will let him do all the things a dog should do – take walks, run, and play with joy.
Since 1933, people like you have partnered with the Humane Society to provide neglected, abused, and injured animals like Chorizo a second chance at life. Please partner with us again today.
Like Chorizo, little Nugget is a sweet five-month-old stray puppy that was hit by a car. She had severely displaced pelvic fractures, a broken hip, and was unable to walk. After a few days in our care, she started to walk again but needed surgery to fix her broken bones.
Yesterday, little Nugget had surgery to fix her pelvis. She is recovering well, but when she has healed from that surgery, she will need another to address the break in her hip. The estimate for both of Nugget’s operations is $2,000. It will allow sweet little Nugget to be a puppy again, to find a loving forever family to be a part of, and the chance to live a long and happy life.
We are the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. We care for the most vulnerable animals in our community: the injured, abused and neglected animals that need the most intensive care and love. Animals in our care stay as long as they need to heal and find their forever home with a loving family.
