Fourth of July with Fido – Celebration Safety Tips

As we all take extra precautions to stay safe and healthy this Independence Day, it is also important to remember your pet’s health and safety during these celebrations.  Most pets aren’t used to extra friends and family coming and going, party food and, of course, fireworks.  As you make plans for the holiday, here are some tips we compiled from the American Veterinary Medical Association and the ASPCA. Keep sparklers, glow sticks, fireworks, pool chemicals, lawn products (like fertilizer or insecticides), charcoal, alcoholic drinks and kabob skewers away from your pets. They can do serious harm if ingested. If you hear fireworks in your neighborhood, make sure you do a quick walk through your yard to check for firework debris before letting your pet outside. It is best to leave your pets indoors and at home. Going to unfamiliar places with loud fireworks can be unsettling and cause anxiety.
