HSMSC focuses our intake on critically injured
and abused dogs and cats in Shelby County.
The information on this page is designed to help you if you are looking for a place to surrender your pet or a pet you have found, or if you are looking for alternatives to surrendering.
HSMSC is a limited-intake facility focusing on critically injured and abused dogs and cats, and we never euthanize for time or space. Unfortunately, we can’t take every animal, and we can’t even accept every injured animal because the need in our area is so great. If you have a dog or cat you believe fits our intake criteria, fill out the form below to request that we accept the animal. Please note that our intake department is open Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sunday/Monday/Thursday, and we receive a high volume of emails.
If you want to request that we confiscate an animal who is not being cared for, visit our Cruelty Investigations page for information on local laws and to file a report.
If you have found an animal that you’re looking to surrender, be sure to also visit our Lost & Found page for tips.
