Primary function: to educate and aid the community in understanding basic animal care and to act within the law to stop cruelty and safeguard the lives of animals being subjected to cruelty, whether it is abuse or neglect.
Responsible for investigating animal neglect, cruelty and abuse complaints from the initial contact to the conclusion of the case with or without prosecution. Responsible for knowing the relevant animal cruelty laws in Tennessee Code Annotated, as well as local city and county ordinances. Under supervision of the Executive Director, use education as the primary method to combat cruelty and abuse, and as a secondary option or when necessary, issue misdemeanor citations and/or felony warrants, collect evidence, assist prosecutors in preparing court cases and testify in court. Responsible for the transportation of animals to HSMSC or to a designated veterinary clinic when the situations warrants.
