Why the Humane Society Is a Great Adoption Option

The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County is a great place to go when you’re looking to adopt a pet. We have an excellent selection of dogs and cats for adoption.

You can depend on our staff to responsibly screen our animals for sound health and temperament. While caring for these animals, staff and volunteers try to learn as much as they can about each pet’s behavior, training, temperament and any special needs.

Don’t be discouraged if, when you first visit the Humane Society, there are no animals of the breed or type you want. The Humane Society receives new animals every day. Before choosing your pet, you can even speak with an adoption counselor about whether your choice of a particular type or breed will be best for you.

Other advantages of adopting from us are our counseling and support services.  After finalizing the adoption, we can provide behavior counseling for you to help make the animal's transition into your home as easy as possible. 

Another advantage is our adoption fees, which are much less than an animal’s purchase price at a pet store or breeder. And your new pet will be vaccinated, De-wormed, and spayed or neutered if it comes from us. After all, helping healthy pets find healthy homes is part of our mission.
