Assistant Director of Operations

The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic professional to work with a team of animal care and shelter staff.  You will partner with the Director of Operations to oversee shelter, clinic and cruelty programs and procedures with primary responsibility for veterinary services to ensure sheltered animals are provided with quality medical/surgical and managed humanely at all times.

The successful candidate will work with the Director of Operations to manage the budget and purchasing, track effectiveness of key performance measures, develop and implement policies and procedures in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and the mission of the facility.  The successful candidate must be able to work with staff and volunteers at all levels to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment as well as encourage creative and innovative ideas. We are looking for a resourceful roll-up-the sleeves attitude with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. 

The individual must demonstrate compassion for animals and passion for animal welfare and any combination of education/experience equivalent to Bachelors degree in field of animal behavior, animal care, business or public relations or related field.  Preferable the candidate has at least three years experience in supervisory or leadership role in a veterinarian hospital or related facility.  Further, the individual must have familiarity with animal care software reporting systems. Strong verbal and communication skills are essential to build positive working relationships with internal and external groups.
